My posts have been less than regular around here lately. Not that you haven't noticed. More often than not, I find that I'm struggling to find a balance between my home life, my work life, this blog, volunteering for the animal shelter (responsibilities ever increasing, which makes me happy!) and my other blog. If I had any sort of sense I would have combined my blog(s) into one like DogsOrDollars did. Then again, I doubt that would have worked for me either, my interests are so varied I'd have a hard time keeping readers engaged at all!
All this to say that JustAWhimsicalWorld has become a 'back burner' project to everything else going on in my life. For a long time now I've had an issue with that. An issue in my way of thinking "If I'm going to HAVE this blog, I have to write it." That's been causing me a lot of un-needed stress. After all I heard this was supposed to be fun right?!? I'm no YoungHouseLove, and I'm not making myhouse rent payments from money gleaned from this blog so why try to live up to those pro-blogging standards? I'm me, and that's about it. Fair Warning: You might get three posts this week, and then none for three weeks after that. But if you're willing to stick around, I promise it will at least be a fun adventure!
I also think it's fair to say that this blog has changed a lot from it's originally intended purpose. I'd started this blog with the hopes of it being somewhat of a personal diary for our families to keep track of us on our new adventure in Kansas. A place where I could share some of Jake's school work, and a few crafts I'd whip up in my spare time. A document of our garden, and backyard chickens. It's been that, and become so much more. I quickly realized that documenting Jake's projects on a free blog hosted by blogger was just not going to cut it. His projects, images, and documents are simply too large to fit or display properly here, and even our free account through Scribd where we hosted some of the larger things doesn't work as intended.
All that being said, I'm not done here. Not even close! But I am going to remain fairly quiet as I have been lately, and I'm finally OK with that. I can't do everything, and I know that, so why even pretend to try? Spending a few extra hours in the kitchen so Jake and I have a healthy dinner together is much more important to me in the long run than an extra blog post or two.
I want to re-focus this blog on things we do as a couple, as a family, and begin documenting those things more. The crafts and decor posts will stay around because that's what I enjoy doing in my free time. And we'll talk about dogs some too, but I've mostly got the other blog for that. When we're finished with the graduate student portion of our life, things may really pick up around here. We'll have a change of scenery with our move, new jobs, and a new life to settle into.
I'll still come back here to post things of interest as the pop up, and probably many crafting projects as well. With not much going on in the garden, and a move in our future, unfortunately garden talk might take a back burner for awhile until we're re-located and settled into our new home (where-ever that might be!)
Now that I've gone on and mentioned that I'm going to be looking at things with a new perspective around here, I DO actually have a few new things in the works for this blog that I am *very excited* about! I'm a new affiliate member for two pretty amazing companies that I can't wait to share with you!! More details coming soon, I promise!
This is me officially letting myself off the hook. Brain dump of the week. That's all to see here folks ;)

You do need to cut out things that stress you. It is much healthier. We really enjoy your posts so will enjoy them whenever you can write one. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks! XOXO
DeleteDoes Jake graduate this spring? Will you stay in the states do you think? I'll miss this blog while you're taking a break?
ReplyDeletethat wasnt.supposed to be a.question :-)
DeleteYep! Jake graduates in May, we will *probably* be in the states, but which one, we have NO idea!!
DeleteI'm not taking an official break, just toning things down a bit so I don't feel the pressure I have been. I'm trying to make more of a name from my SheSpeaksBark blog, so something's gotta give ;)
